A message from our Chief Executive

Over the last few weeks, ABRSM has remained committed to delivering exams where possible, in line with the latest official guidance, and without compromising the safety of our candidates, teachers, staff, examiners, representatives and volunteers.

However, this week, in light of the most recent measures announced by the UK Government, we made the difficult decision to suspend all Practical music exams, and all but a few Theory exams, globally, until at least 1 July 2020.

We are aware that this decision has a significant impact on our community and everyone who is preparing for their exams. However, I would like to reassure you that we are here for you. Our staff may be working from home, but we remain connected and reachable. We will continue to monitor the rapidly changing situation so we can begin to deliver exams wherever we can, as soon as we can, and always in line with latest guidance and without compromising the safety of those involved. We will keep you updated on our latest plans through email, our website and social media channels.

These are challenging times for us all, but I have been amazed and heartened by the resilience of ABRSM staff, who have quickly switched to a new way of working. I sincerely thank the wider ABRSM team across the world for their support and understanding.

So, while we may be located in different places, we are all united by our desire to inspire musical achievement and by our belief in the enormous value of music and music education. Our focus on providing the very best music teaching and learning resources will not stop and we will accelerate our plans to provide new resources and assessments to assist you in your learning and teaching in the digital age.

Our message to everyone in these difficult times is ‘Embrace your music, throw yourself into your practice, your playing, your singing or your teaching, and reach for your goals’. ABRSM will be here to provide support, information and advice to learners, teachers and parents.

We wish you well on your continued musical journeys.

With very best wishes

Michael Elliott

ABRSM Chief Executive
